The (G)ZDoom-to-Doom Pipeline
Stage 1
You take an interest in playing Doom - maybe after a long absence since childhood - and hear that the recommended way to play is to install GZDoom and the Brutal Doom mod.
Stage 2
You start to get tired of Brutal Doom's constant intensity (or its poor performance, or poor compatibility with levels that ship custom monsters, or all of the above at once). You start trying other mods. Maybe you even start developing your own.
Stage 3
Constant fluctuations in difficulty start to wear you thin; at this point, you really just want a consistent, fair, and challenging experience. You drop monster mods and other gameplay changes, and if you do use a weapon mod, it hews close to the original balance. You make a point of not using any such weapons when the levels provide their own.
Stage 4
You install DSDA-Doom. How bad could it be?
